On race day, the original bells will be on display for all to see, accompanied by a pop-up museum exhibit from Tullie House showcasing sporting memorabilia from across the county. And while Carlisle Racecourse is home to several flat racing fixtures across the summer season, general manager Helen Willis admits that there is something extra special about the prestigious Bell and Plate Day. On the day, racing will get underway at 2.05pm, with the seventh and final race taking place at 5.15pm. After this Wednesday’s fixture, attentions will be placed firmly on the upcoming Community Raceday, which takes place on July 6 and will feature the inaugural Carlisle Racecourse Community Awards. The categories being contested are Community Champion, Sporting Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Group of the Year and Sports Team of the Year.
