It used to be that female expats were for the most part following their husbands on an assignment to foreign shores. When it comes to expat women in upper management, Internations found that fewer than 50% were in a relationship and fewer than four in 10 have children. The career report, part of the Internations annual Expat Insider survey, ranks the top 10 countries for women to pursue a career abroad. Indeed, most women surveyed who move abroad for work-related reasons found a job on their own (47%). Only 7% of female expats were sent abroad by their employer, compared to 15% of the male expats surveyed.
