Careem Egypt, a transportation network company, Wednesday signed a partnership agreement with Total, a French integrated oil and gas company, to raise awareness of road safety among its customers.This came on the sidelines of the conference held by both companies to announce the launch of the joint campaign. Total’s annual investment is estimated at $18bn-$20bn, with net income of about $1.5bn in 2016,” said Ian LePetit, Total Egypt’s managing director. For his part, Ramy Kato, chief operating officer of Careem Egypt, said that Careem operates in more than 50 cities in the Middle East and North Africa through 150,000 drivers. In Egypt, Careem conducts more than 120,000 trips per day through 50,000 drivers, Kato added. The report said that 64% of road accidents in 2015 were caused by human error, while vehicles’ bad conditions led to 21.9% of accidents and road conditions accounted for 2.4%.
