The board was warned seven public nursing homes currently "cannot be registered" because of "poor regulatory non-compliance". Of 90 nursing homes requiring capital improvement or replacement, "approximately half" will not have the required works implemented by the 2021 deadline. The scale of non-compliance in public nursing homes, revealed in board minutes, will renew concerns for the future of residential care. However the board minutes note the "challenges" in registering or renewing the registration of nursing homes and disability centres because of "regulatory non-compliance". However, several public nursing homes are expected to come in for further criticism in the latest tranche of 60 inspection reports due to be published by Hiqa tomorrow.
