Care-home whistleblower suing the HSE in personal injuries case

Frustration: Caoimhe Haughey says the process has been drawn outA whistleblower who made a protected disclosure alleging shortcomings in a Dublin nursing home where 24 people died with Covid-19 is taking a personal injuries case against the HSE. The healthcare worker, a staff member from St Mary’s nursing home in the Phoenix Park, contracted Covid-19 while caring for patients at the facility and subsequently suffered a mini-stroke. “The investigation team will argue that as a result of these families coming forward, that has elongated the process, and that’s acceptable,” she said. In response to queries, the HSE said it “cannot comment on the ongoing protected disclosure. Community Healthcare Organisation Dublin North City and County (CHO DNCC) are cooperating fully with the investigation team”.
