The article by the Star’s Josh Rubin, highlighting this most recent campaign by the Chartwell LTC corporation to avoid requirements for resident quarantines, is just one more indication of the self-interest that permeates these efforts. There is no doubt that this desire on Chartwell’s part is simply a strategy to maximize their profits. I submit that it is not the responsibility of the people who reside in their facilities, nor of taxpayers of this province, to enable them to do this at the expense of risk to people’s lives. This should have been the standard practised by these facilities even before the tragic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is my fervent hope that the Chartwell corporation is not successful in this campaign.
