The competition regulator is locked in a dispute with one of the country’s largest care home providers over more than £3 million of compensation for customers. Care UK has been told by the Competition and Markets Authority to refund as much as £3,000 to more than 1,600 residents who were charged a compulsory upfront “administration” fee. The CMA has given Care UK until January 10 to respond and has warned that it faces legal action if it does not comply. Care UK operates more than 110 care homes across Britain and began as a provider of retirement homes in Essex in 1982.
