Argentine Economy Minister Luis Caputo said that the country is experiencing “record” economic activity and rejected rumors of a potential recession, following positive economic statistics released on Thursday. “Argentina’s economy is going through a process of growth, sustained by concrete numbers, and not sensations,” Caputo said, questioning press reports about a potential recession amid a growth in unemployment figures. Speaking in an interview with libertarian streaming channel Carajo, Caputo said that the latest data shows record numbers for economic activity, consumption and exports. Argentina’s economic activity grew by 1.9% in January interannually and 0.4% compared to December 2025, according to the national statistics institute, INDEC. During the Carajo interview, Caputo acknowledged that “not all figures are positive,” referring to the rise in unemployment and inflation.
