One very useful thing that could come out of the anniversary is everyone knowing a little more about our history. Obviously in the New Zealand scenario, Captain Cook's visit was the beginning of a catastrophe for the indigenous people. And, like Pākehā after them, the Māori arrival in New Zealand was a disaster for the flora and fauna of the land.
