It was a loss that put the Leafs up 2-1 in their best of seven opening round series with Washington, and one that further ushered in a nagging theme for Capitals, that they are a great regular season team defined by early playoff exits. Right now, the prospect of the Capitals, the NHL’s President’s Trophy winner, falling to the eighth seeded Leafs is very real among Capitals fans back in Washington. CSN and other media are asking “is it possible to talk (Capitals fans) off the ledge,” and the answer is no.
