The Washington Capitals watched their star goaltender take a seat on the bench less than 14 minutes into their game against the Arizona Coyotes. Holtby took his first loss in more than two weeks, and the Capitals’ significant opportunity to extend their lead in the Metropolitan Division was wasted. After trailing 3-0 through 20 minutes, the Capitals were able to cut the Coyotes’ lead to just one goal. That seemed to build to the disastrous first period for Washington against the Coyotes on Friday night. When the teams came out for the second period, Holtby was back in the crease with Trotz seemingly charging the Capitals to make it up to him.
