Nicklas Backstrom, pictured during Game 4 on Thursday night in Pittsburgh, left Saturday night’s game 6:48 into the third period. Center Nicklas Backstrom missed most of the third period with what Coach Barry Trotz announced as an upper-body injury. On a Penguins power play midway through the first period, Backstrom appeared to block a shot with his hand. An injury to Backstrom would be a significant blow to the Capitals. Nicklas Backstrom with just 5 shifts in the 3rd period in G5...with rather interesting lengths::40:05:41:11:09...and that last shift ended at 13:12 of the Period.
