Capitals' Alex Ovechkin opts out of All-Star Game again to get rest

For the second year in a row, Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin will skip the NHL All-Star Game. The decision means he will receive a one-game suspension either right before or right after the All-Star break, the same punishment he served in the 2018-19 season. Ovechkin, 34, was elected by fans to play for the Metropolitan Division team in the All-Star Game at St. Louis on Jan. 25. “It’s the right thing for him at age 34 to rest and get ready for what he ultimately wants and that’s another run at the Cup. That’s what he’s playing the game for now.”Ovechkin assisted on the winning goal Friday in the Capitals’ 2-1 overtime victory over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.
