Otago had the first opportunity to open the scoring but Josh Ioane pulled the ball wide of the near post. The home side was spinning the ball wide at every opportunity and trying to stretch the visitor’s defence. The missed conversion left Otago needing a converted try to draw the game and hold on to the Shield.
