Virtual reality, Netflix and Amazon productions and TV series were all part of the lineup announced April 13 for the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, reflecting the changing nature of film festivals and indeed of film itself. The highest representation of female directors was in 2011, in four of the 20 competition films. And for the first time since 2013 there will not be a Canadian film in competition. In 2014, Canada had a record three films in competition, with works by David Cronenberg, Xavier Dolan and Atom Egoyan. The 70th Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17 to May 28.
