Alexander Pattinson, 36, wept as Judge Michael Fanning told him that his cane corso Gino, which left the first victim with horrific facial injuries, will now have to be put down. The man had then gone over to Pattinson to console him with a hug when Gino woke and attacked. She told him he could bring Gino over with him and they sat out in her back garden. Judge Fanning said he also had to consider whether Pattinson was a “fit person" to own a dog, and capable of controlling a dog. Judge Fanning said the sentence was meant to minimise the risk to the public, adding: “The risk is the dog, not you.”
