Spooky stories are told around camp fires, scary movies appear in theatres and pumpkins are expertly (and not-so-expertly) carved into jack-o’-lanterns. Trick-or-treating is customary for children (often, older ones join in too) on Halloween. In their respective campaigns and in the US presidential debates, the rival candidates have demonised each other, calling each other unqualified and unfit for the highest job in the country. One labelled the other a “danger to the security of the nation” while the other retorted: “You should be in jail!”. They are told that voting for the rival candidate would spell doom for the nation.
