Cancer cases to increase by 81% in two decades

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Feb 4, 2020 - World Cancer Day - that cancer cases would rise by 81% in low- and middle-income countries by 2040 due to a lack of investment in prevention and care. It said they often had the highest cancer mortality too. The report said an investment of US$25bil (RM103bil) over the next decade could save seven million lives from cancer. The annual report found that overall cancer cases in the world would rise by 60% by 2040, with tobacco use being responsible for a quarter of cancer deaths. While cancer had long been considered a disease of wealthy countries, this was no longer the case, the report said.
