Canary Islands volcano: Could eruption cause landslide and mega-tsunami?

Authorities have detected more than 4200 tremors in what scientists are calling an "earthquake swarm" around La Palma island since last Saturday. Before that, the volcano erupted in 1949 and it is the changes wrought by that eruption that some believe put the entire structure of the volcano at risk. A year later, in 2001, Day teamed up with Dr Steven N Ward, from the University of California, to author a study on the destructive potential of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. The island of La Palma is a volcanic island in the Atlantic ocean. General view of one of the Cumbre Vieja volcanoes, an area in the south of the island that could be affected by a possible volcanic eruption.
