A video clip — recorded Saturday and sent to the Jackson Hole Buckrail local news outlet by an anonymous passerby — shows four men precariously close to Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring, two with cameras in tow. Theodorus Van Vliet, a Dutch tourist, was fined US$1,000 and ordered to pay a further US$2,200 in restitution after piloting a drone into the Grand Prismatic in 2014. One turns from the spring and holds his arms aloft, as the video pans back to reveal their distance from the nearby boardwalk. A travelling horde of Canadian filmmakers irked rangers at Yellowstone National Park over the weekend, violating park policy by walking up to the edge of North America’s largest hot spring. The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) bars visitors from leaving boardwalks and designated trails in hydrothermal areas of the park, including hot springs.
