Canada was waiting nervously to see what would happen in games involving France, Japan, Australia and Puerto Rico on Sunday and Monday. Canada’s start to the second half mirrored an equally slow start to the game; the Canadians trailed by 12 before the first quarter was nine minutes old. Six-foot-five centre Astou Ndour was dominant on offence with 20 points and added 11 rebounds. Bridget Carleton, who had another tremendous defensive game, had nine points for Canada, as did Nirra Fields. They had six in the first quarter alone — 14 for the game — and Spain scored 26 points off those turnovers.
