The S&P/TSX composite index closed down almost one per cent, losing 155.26 points to 16,089.33 after hitting an intraday low of 16,043.86. The S&P 500 index was down 54.17 points at 2,800.71, while the Nasdaq composite was down 196.29 points at 7,642.67.
