OTTAWA —A ban on non-essential travel by foreign nationals to Canada is still under consideration by the federal government, the Star has learned. The ban was all but ready to be rolled out until the pushback gave the prime minister pause to reconsider, multiple sources have told the Star. However, it is not off the table, said five senior federal sources with knowledge of the file. The Delta variant represents 97 per cent of cases reported in Canada right now, while Omicron makes up about two per cent. Many of those millions of rapid tests will expire in February, said a federal source, so the push is on to get them out the door.
