Statistics Canada reported Friday that the economy lost a net 6,400 jobs for the month, following a rise of 59,900 in June. The unemployment rate in July was 0.1 percentage point higher at 5.5%, in line with expectations. When calculated using U.S. Labor Department methodology, Canada's unemployment rate in July was 0.3 percentage point higher at 4.7%. Write to Robb M.
