The statement confirmed that Mexico would join Canada and the U.S. in seeking to reduce methane gas emissions from the oil-and-gas sector by up to 45 per cent by 2025. The promise of further collaboration on cross-border transmission projects is likely good news for Canada in that it provides for further opportunities to export hydro power. These include the previously announced plan to align standards for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions for light and heavy duty vehicles. The deal, announced by the White House earlier this week, would count renewable power, along with nuclear generation and carbon capture and storage technologies.
