FIFTY years ago a group of youngsters went on a two-week camping adventure to France, travelling on St Helens’ only coach. To mark the golden anniversary of the exchange trip to the twin town of Chalon-sur-Saone, one of the young Scouts, Terry Gregson, is hoping to find some of the friends and group leaders who shared the holiday. As a 14-year-old, Terry and 17 Scouts were accompanied by two Scout leaders in July 1971 as they made their way from Birchley Street in St Helens to eastern France. “We helped with renovation work at a nearby castle as the French Scouts had helped spruce up the gardens at St Helens Hospital when they visited us.
