Can you tell which one of these mice is smiling? Clue: it's very subtle

Mice, like humans, have facial expressions that can reveal their emotional state, according to researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology. Study leader, neuroscientists Nadine Gogolla, said by recording facial expressions they can investigate the 'fundamental neuronal mechanisms' behind emotions. They then used machine learning algorithms, a type of artificial intelligence, to identify the facial expressions associated with six emotional responses. The neurobiologists were able to evoke different emotional facial expressions when they activated specific brain areas known to play a role in emotional processing. They found the facial expressions to reflect 'the inner, individual character of an emotion' that arise through mechanisms in the brain.
