In 2018, state and federal lawmakers got serious about retirement security—or the lack thereof. This year should bring continued attention to the issue. California and Illinois recently introduced programs designed to bring retirement-savings plans to residents who don’t have access to one at work, and more states and cities are developing and considering similar initiatives.
