I suspect a wooden spoon will work a little — popping bubbles and transferring some of the heat to the wood — but not likely very well. Does the heat of your stove often cause water to boil over the top of your pot? Next time, balance a wooden spoon across the top to stop the froth in its tracks. Measure out the water and oats (2 cups water, ½ cup oats). Step 3Just before the concoction boils over, I put a wooden spoon over the top.
