Recently, the court decision bestowed legal personality to the Turag River. The legal jurisprudence states that non-human entities may also be a person in the eyes of law like a breathing and living human being. Indeed, the likes of the Vilcabamba River in Ecuador, and Atrato River in Colombia possess legal rights. It is not only Turag River that is a legal person now, in fact, the court deemed it applicable for all other rivers as well. Since the river has the same rights as a human being, it can sue any person threatening its existence.
