This is Najima Bibi, a PRJA foot soldiers and also one of the three candidates fielded by the party. Bibi will be contesting from Wabagai in Thoubal district on the second phase of Manipur elections on 8 March. She is the first Muslim woman to contest an election in Manipur, but the 44-year-old is used to being a trailblazer. Bibi has been fighting for women’s rights in Manipur for more than a decade now. It now remains to be seen whether Irom Sharmila and Najima Bibi can create history in male-dominated electoral politics of Manipur.
