Alberta's poison hotline has been getting a lot of calls from people who got sick after taking the drug ivermectin, which has been widely — and wrongly — touted as a treatment for COVID-19. Dr. Mark Yarema, medical director of Alberta's Poison and Drug Information Service, says the hotline has noticed a spike in calls from people concerned about ivermectin. One published study supporting the use of ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment had to be retracted after concerns were raised about data fabrication, plagiarism and ethical breaches.
