Giving small businesses relief from GST payments would do more good for more firms than the Government's current rescue efforts, one business executive says. Michael Barnett of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce says most small businesses make small profits. "Most small and medium businesses (SMEs) have slim margins and small profits. Barnett said costs of premises were normally the biggest expense for small businesses after staff, and this is where Government should help SMEs. Small businesses have guarantees over personal assets and they are still at risk.
