The Democrats have a "blue wave" of momentum building for the 2018 midterms, thanks to a motivated base, success in special elections and a low approval rating for President Trump. Eight states hold primaries Tuesday. The most important contests are in California, where the top two vote-getters—regardless of their party—will advance to the general election. That means both parties are at risk of being shut out of key elections for Congress, governor and U.S. Senate. Elsewhere, Iowa’s Democrats will pick candidates for governor, and an Alabama GOP congresswoman who spurned President Donald Trump in 2016 will find out if there is a price to pay for her disloyalty.
