California Lawmakers Want To Ban Bad Default Passwords


Hopefully you remembered to change the password as part of the setup process. Hooking up a device to the Internet with the factory default passwords is like putting out the welcome mat for hackers. Many manufacturers have made password changes a required part of the setup process. The state senate has sent draft legislation to Governor Jerry Brown that would force connected device manufacturers to get with the program. The first is to force consumers to change the password during the setup process -- and presumably also prevent owners from using any classically-bad passwords.
