Calgary teachers head back to class for a crash course in coding

( Photo courtesy of Alicia Bjarnason )The Teachers Learning Code program strives to arm teachers with coding abilites, so that they can incorporate code in their own lesson plans, said Carolyn Van, Canada Learning Code’s director of program design. Although Canada Learning Code started in 2011, the workshop for K-12 teachers spawned in 2017. According to the AWSN president, initiatives, like Teachers Learning Code, help educators acclimate to the growing emphasis on STEM and computer science. “We’re not just working with teachers in STEM,” Van said, adding that history and art teachers participate in the workshops.
