Canada's Calgary Zoo will be returning two giant pandas on loan from China because a scarcity of flights due to COVID-19 has caused problems with getting enough fresh and tasty bamboo to feed their gargantuan appetites. Pandas Er Shun and Da Mao first arrived at the zoo in 2018 after spending five years living at the Toronto Zoo and were supposed to remain in Alberta until 2023. Er Shun and Da Mao were originally born at the Chongqing Zoo a year apart between 2007 and 2008. Er Shun -- the oldest -- was named for her smoothness, whereas the name Da Mao means "first of Mao," as he was his mother's firstborn. Bamboo is rare in Canada and Er Shun and Da Mao prefer only certain kinds.
