Cagayan ex-mayor gets 10 years in jail

Cagayan ex-mayor gets 10 years in jailThe Sandiganbayan sentenced the former mayor of Buguey in Cagayan province to a maximum of 10 years imprisonment for graft in connection with non-payment of salaries of five employees in 2007. Ignacio Taruc was also perpetually banned from holding public office. The anti-graft court decision, in part, stated “that complainants are entitled to receive their salaries as they have valid appointments” and “that they rendered services for the months of July and August 2007.”It pointed out that Taruc showed ill-will to the complainants, who were known appointees of his political rival, by his refusal to sign the check representing their salaries.
