The Cabinet has directed that the roles of Regional Development Authorities (RDAs) be reviewed in light of devolution. In light of the two levels of government, the Cabinet said, the review should assess the impact and effectiveness of the six regional authorities. These are Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority, Kerio Valley Development Authority, Lake Basin Development Authority, Ewaso Nyiro North Development Authority, Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority and the Coast Development Authority. According to the Acts that created them, the RDAs were constituted based on river basins and large water bodies to spur regional development through sustainable utilisation and conservation of natural resources. In line with Kenya Kwanza's commitment to transparent fiscal management, the Cabinet approved a new method of accounting in government.
