CWC: CWC to pass resolution on 75th Quit India anniversary

NEW DELHI: Congress mulled a proposal to hold a two-day meeting in Mumbai to replicate the historic AICC session held on August 7-8 in 1942 where Mahatma Gandhi piloted a resolution which launched the Quit India movement, the watershed event which set the ball rolling for independence five years later. But the ongoing Parliament session came in the way of a gathering in Mumbai, the reason why Congress Working Committee will now meet in the capital on Tuesday. The party said such sessions had only been repeated twice to mark the anniversaries of independence. Announcing boycott of the GST session, deputy leader of op position in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma had called it "an insult to 1947".All eyes are on what line the CWC takes in its special meeting. While a resolution is to be passed, many wonder if Congress will escalate the clash with BJP by talking about "RSS having stayed away from Quit India movement". Congress leaders reacted likewise to Modi's radio address where he mentioned Quit India. The CWC meeting on Tuesday evening will coincide with the results of the contentious RS polls in Gujarat.Congress is miffed at BJP's aggressive bid to win over its MLAs to defeat Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The attack on Rahul Gandhi during a tour of flood-hit areas of Gujarat has only deepened the feud.
