CUPD Arrests Alleged Cornell Store Thief


University police say they have arrested Nicholas J. Bennedum, a 33-year-old Ithaca resident, in connection with an a Aug. 8 burglary reported at the Cornell Store. The morning after the reported robbery, store employees noticed that someone had stolen cash, tampered with surveillance cameras and entered the store’s vault area, The Sun previously reported. Bennedum was extradited from Nebraska to Ithaca by deputies from the Tompkins Sheriff’s Office. He was charged in Ithaca City Court on one count of third-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny yesterday. Bennedum has been imprisoned in Tompkins County jail with a $14,000 cash bail or $28,000 bond.
