Adelani Adepegba, AbujaA coalition of civil society organisations has accused the Federal Government of persecuting an Abuja activist, Deji Adeyanju, by detaining him in the Kano Prison since December last year. The group stated that Adeyanju was arrested in Abuja and taken to Kano where he was arraigned before a magistrate’s court for murder, a charge for which he and two others were acquitted and discharged in 2009. The CSOs, which include Free Nigeria Movement, MadConnect and Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution, in a statement in Abuja, accused the government of frustrating Adeyanju’s bail application during court proceeding on Wednesday. The group said the case was transferred to another court in order to perpetually keep the activist in custody. “The prosecutor, Musa Muhammad, who did not respond to the bail application filed since December 27, 2018, until last week, curiously produced in court a document showing that fresh charges filed against Adeyanju have been quickly assigned to a judge.
