The Canadian Security Intelligence Service predicted Meng Wanzhou's arrest in December 2018 would send "shock waves" around the world and have significant consequences for Canada, according to newly released federal court documents. Meng's lawyers claim police took note of the electronic identification numbers associated with Meng's phones and tablets. The CSIS report says "FBI will not be present" at Meng's arrest "in order to avoid the perception of influence." In the days after Meng's arrest, Chinese authorities detained two Canadians, former diplomat Michael Kovrig and entrepreneur Michael Spavor. CSIS documents refer to their case in relation to possible consequences for Meng Wanzhou's arrest.
