CSAIL had been formed to invest in clean energy projects in the South Asian region with a current focus on Pakistan. The mandate of CSAIL includes but is not limited to acquisition, development, construction, owning and operating renewable energy projects. The company [CSAIL] has six standalone energy projects in Pakistan, four under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and two independent [non-CPEC]. The non-CPEC projects of CSAIL include the aforementioned Three Gorges First Wind Farm and 640MW Mahl Hydropower Project, also located on Jhelum River. It is the first wind project developed by CSAIL and is located near Jhimpir village in Thatta district of Sindh.
