Health Minister Jason Copping hesitated to say that the province is headed into a sixth wave, but adds case rates are expected to go up as Albertans continue living with fewer COVID-19 restrictions. Copping says the province is not considering more public health measures because case rates and hospitalizations are not expected to reach levels that would put further stress on the health-care system. Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, says there are 900 people in hospital due to COVID-19, including 44 patients in intensive care. The province is also reporting 30 new COVID-19 deaths between March 29 and Monday.
