COVID-19: Jigawa Assembly cuts 2020 budget by 19 per cent

The Jigawa State house of Assembly has passed the reviewed 2020 budget into law which reduces it by 19 per cent equivalent to the sum of over N28 billion. Reviewing the budget followed a request by the executive arm of government submitted to the house early last Monday. The executive arm proposed the cut of the 2020 appreciation budget by 19% to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Speaking while passing the budget, the speaker Jigawa State Assembly, Alhaji Idris Garba Jahun said, the review of the appropriation law became necessary as a result of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy. The 2020 appropriation size is now reduced by N28 billion equivalent to 19 per cent of the actual amount of the budget estimate, “that is from N152.92 billion to N124.357 billion in order to be realistic towards government and public expenditures”.
