COVID-19: India reports 4,205 highest single day deaths, 3.48 lakh fresh cases in 24 hours


Active COVID-19 cases in India have dropped for the third straight day, with the country reporting 3,48,371 fresh infections on Wednesday. India's total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 2,33,40,938 with 3,48,421 new infections, while the recoveries have surged to 1,93,82,642, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death count in the country due to COVID-19 increased to 2,54,197 with 4,205 new fatalities in the last 24 hours. While the daily toll in Maharashtra rose to 793 after staying below 600 for two days, at least nine states and Union territories recorded their highest ever deaths in a single day. Mizoram on Wednesday reported the highest single-day spike of 240 COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 8,035, an official said.
