The prayer meeting was also meant to address suppression of freedom of expression following the arrest of the eight MPs over alleged hate speech. CORD has held weekly anti-IEBC demos that have led to destruction of property and loss of life. Earlier, CORD had postponed a prayer rally scheduled for Sunday, June 19 in Machakos town. “There are signs of a definitive white smoke above the political scene in reaching an agreement between CORD and Jubilee in respect of the IEBC issue and electoral process,” the statement reads. In this regard, CORD has suspended all weekly demonstrations until further notice.
