Robinson lost the North Carolina governor race to Josh Stein. CNN filed a Notice of Removal on November 15 requesting the case be moved from Wake County Superior Court to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Robinson also filed a defamation lawsuit against former adult video store worker Louis Love Money. On election night, Robinson was thoroughly defeated by Democrat Josh Stein in the race for North Carolina Governor. Stein's victory by 14.8 percentage points was the largest margin of victory in a North Carolina gubernatorial race since Pat McCrory beat Walter Dalton by 11.39 points in 2012.
