AHMEDABAD: Chief Justice of India (CJI) TS Thakur began his maiden visit to Gujarat on Saturday by meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi The CJI praised the "peaceful" and "tranquil" nature of the PM's home state when compared to "power-centre Delhi, which has witnessed bloodshed for centuries." While inaugurating a state-level judicial officers' conference on Saturday morning, Thakur pitched for making the best use of infrastructure provided by the state, at a time when basic facilities like health and drinking water are neglected in the country. Thakur is known for criticizing the lack of judicial appointments resulting in increasing backlog of pending cases.Speaking about his meeting with Modi at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar , the CJI told the judicial officers, "I was telling the PM that coming to Gujarat gives a feeling of coming to a place of peace. No one can feel this reverberation more than those in high offices, as so many things are connected to the offices that you hold. "Addressing nearly 400 judicial officers, the CJI said, "You must always be conscious of the fact that today , the investment that has gone into these institutions has been made by sacrificing a measure of the state's obligation towards other equally pressing public needs like drinking water supply and basic health requirements.
